E(REC/MO)TIONS - (2017)

Emotions seem to have become the unit of measurement of our lives, in the real world as much as in the digital/virtual one. The only protocol for turning everything that happens to us every day, from the most banal things to the most extraordinary, into experiences, to the point of convincing ourselves that we can believe we have ‘lived’. In photography too it is always possible to fall back on them: without emotions there would be no photographs. Emotions, technically, are uncontrolled reactions we are subject to, whose essential purpose is to save us from dangers and unpleasant situations even before we have a rational reading of what is happening around us. Personally, I have always preferred feelings, a first form of knowledge of the world that comes even before rational knowledge proper. This series is meant as a provocation. It is not entirely clear whether erotic/sexual arousal is an emotion or not. The use of dildos, prostheses employed here as symbols, detached from their actual use, rather than as icons (they in fact bear only a distant resemblance to the original object…), is intended to call into question the importance of emotions, which can arise, for example, from flowers and other objects.
